Poker is a card game in which each player is dealt a pair of cards face down. These are called the “hole” and “pocket” of each player. Each player may shuffle their cards during each round of betting, but the dealer has the last say. If a player wants to shuffle his cards for a new hand, he must offer the shuffled pack to his or her opponent’s right.<\/p>\n
In some variants of poker, blind bets replace the ante and occur before each player is dealt a hand. Blind bets are rotated around the table each round, and each player must call the blind bet before checking the other player’s hand. The blind bet requirement may be higher or lower than the ante.<\/p>\n
The goal of poker is to build the best possible hand by using the five cards in the deck. The highest hand wins. Each hand consists of two cards from a player’s hand and one or more cards from the table. A poker hand may be one or more pairs, or it may be a combination of two of each type.<\/p>\n
While many people have a negative view of poker because of its gambling element, this is far from the truth. The game is an enjoyable and skill-based sport.
