Poker is a card game in which players place bets against each other and make a hand of cards. There are many variations of poker, but all share some similarities. The object of the game is to win wagers, or the pot, by making the best possible poker hand. This is achieved by bluffing and getting other players to fold. A good poker player is always looking for a way to increase his winnings. There is a risk associated with every reward in both poker and life, so it is important to know when to take a chance.<\/p>\n
The game begins with a round of betting after all players have received 2 cards. Each player must put the amount of chips (representing money) in the pot that is equal to or higher than the bet made by the player before him. This is called calling a bet.<\/p>\n
A poker hand consists of 5 consecutive rank cards from more than one suit, but the ace can be either low (below a 2) or high (above a king). This is called a straight. Three cards of the same rank plus two unmatched cards of a different rank is called a flush. Two pair is a poker hand consisting of two cards of the same rank and another two cards of a different rank.<\/p>\n
