Poker is a card game of skill where players bet in rounds, raising and reraising as they go. The best hand wins the pot. A hand consists of two personal cards plus the five community cards on the table.<\/p>\n
Most forms of poker require one or more forced bets before the dealing begins, referred to as an ante and a blind. Once the antes or blind have been placed, the dealer shuffles the deck, cuts it and deals cards to each player, starting with the player on his or her left. Some games allow a player to replace some of the cards in their hand with additional ones, but this is not standard in most professional games.<\/p>\n
After the initial deal, a series of betting intervals begin, with each player in turn having the option to either call (match the number of chips put into the pot by the player before him or her), raise (put in more than the previous player), or drop out (\u201cfold\u201d). A player who drops out forfeits any chips that they have contributed to the pot until the next deal.<\/p>\n
In addition to raising and calling, a player can also improve his or her hand by bluffing. This involves projecting confidence in your hand and attempting to make other players think that it is better than it actually is, in the hope that they will fold rather than risk taking you on in a showdown.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
