Poker is a card game in which the players try to create the best hand possible out of their cards. Each player is dealt a total of seven cards, which are split between their two hands and the rest of the deck. The player whose hand is the best of the seven wins the pot.
The game is played with a standard 52-card deck (or sometimes multiple packs, each of which has a different set of cards). These are ranked from high to low: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
A hand is made up of any combination of the five cards in a player’s hands. The highest possible hand is a five of a kind, which beats any hand that includes an ace and another card of the same suit.

The first type is draw poker, where the entire hand is dealt face down to each player. The player can then discard up to three cards and take new ones from the top of the deck.
After the drawing phase, a betting round occurs. After that, the hands are revealed and the winner collects the pot. In some versions of poker, a maximum amount of money can be bet in each betting round. Once the limit is reached, the next round begins with a new bet, and any subsequent raises or calls must at least match the previous round’s bet.
